The first vines were planted in 1856 in the mineral rich hills around Beechworth which are home to more than a dozen vineyards. Typically, the climate is linked to altitude with a wide range in heat degree summations between the lower and higher elevations. Varieties produced are Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Shiraz.
