The Shiraz Cabernet blend is an Australian institution. First championed in Australia in the late 1800s as generic "claret", the blend of Shiraz and Cabernet was resurrected in the 1950s. Shiraz Cabernet wines are open, round and lucious and a tad on the sweet side. Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon are currently the most widely grown grape varieties in Australia.
