John Duval-Annexus-Mataro-2017-750mL

9777

Vibrant purple red. Savoury, spicy fruit aromatics, with lifted red cherry and anise supported by hints of earth, and leather. Medium bodied, showing a vibrant and fresh core of bramble, mulberry and plum fruit. Bright acidity and poised tannins round out the sleek-textured, moreish finish.

RBJ Theologicum Mataro 2002 1.5L

492

The 2002 RBJ Theologicum is a brilliant tilt at the Southern Rhone; a dark-hued, firmly constructed, robust red with loads of pepper and spice on the nose. On the palate there are wads of raspberries and dark berry fruit, while the finish is long, dry and rewarding.

Torbreck The Pict Mataro 2004 1.5L

768

The Picts, a tribe of fierce warriors, were the first people to inhabit Scotland.

This wine is made from Mataro and, being one of the founding varieties planted in the Barossa, has been named in their honour. It is sourced solely from a single plot of ancient vines near the hamlet of Greenock.

A truly rich and extravagant wine, enough to satiate a Pictish warrior. “I have always professed to a strong influence from French wine styles and varietals in my approach to wine making, and the 2004 Pict fervently displays these influences.

The wild, rugged and earthen aromas typically associated with the Bandol region of France provide the basis for this powerful single vineyard Mataro.

Fresh soil, tree bark, cassis and leather dominate the nose with hints of spice and chocolate coming through. The palate is elegantly rich and earthy and already beautifully balanced. The tannins are ripe and profound and the 2004 Pict is expected to flourish and develop for many years.” Dave Powell, Chief Winemaker
