Antipodes Water Still Mineral Water 1L

The mineral water comes from a deep 500 – 1000ft deep pressured aquifer and has a residency of about 50 years while filtering through a sub strata of ignimbrite. The area of recharge for the aquifer is the Rotoma Hills, which has a historically low human population density, less than 1 person per 250 acre, with no commercial or industrial activity. Antipodes mineral water is bottled at the source in Otakiri, Bay of Plenty.

Ata Rangi Craighall Chardonnay 2012 750mL

Craighall is the premium Chardonnay from the prized blocks of Mendoza cloned vines, most of which are now 30 years old. A bright stone fruit and citrus blossom bouquet and sleek, with driven mineralityforming the key cohesive and finely crafted 2012 vintage.

The has elegance, balance, minerality, tension and drive. On the nose, ripe stone-fruit meets white-flower perfume, these primary characters leading effortlessly into more savoury, melded, brioche-like fermentation characters on the palate.

Bollinger Rose Brut Pinot Noir Chardonnay Pinot Meunier NV 750mL

Maturation: Cellar aged for more than twice the time required by the appellation.

Dosage: Moderate, 7 to 8 grams per liter.

Branson Coach House Coach House Block Shiraz 2004 750mL

A multi dimensional bouquet of roasted meats, mineral, cola, tar and blackberry. Give this one time to open up, this monster is built for the long haul! The palate starts out thick and coating; immediately powerful and explosive, you are then thrown a huge chunk of fruit while the acid and tannin roll around trying to tame it. The wine shows great oak handling and remains succulent, complete and perfectly balanced.

Brokenwood Estate Semillon 2015 750mL

Awards

Gold Medal: Royal Adelaide Wine Show 2015
Silver Medals: Hunter Valley Wine Show 2015
Royal Queensland Wine Show 2015
Royal Melbourne Wine Awards 2015

Comments:

If we have said it once, we have said it a million times, the word normal just doesn’t exist for the Hunter Valley.
There was a three week turn around in picking compared to 2014, and most Semillon was off in the last week of January. It was a very dry winter of 2014 with only 54mm of rain from May to July.
A very good budburst and spring, but then a cold and wet December resulting in quite large canopies and disease pressure. Thankfully all of our Semillon is handpicked and the vineyard team did a great job of getting clean, sound fruit in.
This vintage is stylistically on song, but a smaller production of Semillon than usual. All fruit was harvested before the damaging East Coast low wreaked havoc on the Hunter Valley.

Food Pairing:
Asian food, any seafood especially fresh shucked oysters.

Brokenwood Graveyard Vineyard Shiraz 2013 750mL

Sound fruit and excellent ripeness. Typical mid density colour meaning this is an elegant supple Graveyard Shiraz.

The older, large format French oak integrates perfectly with sweetness and fine tannins. The fruit spectrum for Graveyard Shiraz is about red cherries and almost Pinot-like Campari notes. Medium bodied palate but with ripe tannins and a juicy acidity that will keep the wine in good stead for many years.

Brokenwood Hunter Valley Shiraz 2014 750mL

Lovely mid density colour, not light or black with purple hues. Dark cherry and now released as a young wine, some noticeble charry oak notes on the aroma.

Brokenwood had the luxury of being highly selective across all its barrels in 2014 and this wine has benefitted greatly from some declassified old vine Graveyard Shiraz in the blend.

Full flavoured and slight Hunter Valley iodine characters and lots of ripe blackberry fruit.

Sweet ripe tannins carry the flavour and bright acid finish. Again oak there but certainly fits the overall structure of the wine.

Brokenwood Indigo Vineyard Chardonnay 2014 750mL

The Beechworth ‘terroir’ has a distinctive fruit character of pear/peach fruit.

The oak has minimal impact by using older French oak and mainly puncheons.

The warm year has meant less citrus lift but has bran meal notes from the wild ferment and extended lees contact.

The palate is quite rich with zesty acid line through to the finish.

Clarendon Hills Astralis Shiraz 2008 750mL

This is Clarendon Hills’ flagship wine. It is a member of Clarendon Hills’ ‘Grand Cru’ classification. Every year, the Astralis vineyard produces the most beautiful wine in our cellar. Despite its non-differentiated treatment in the cellar, it always reveals the most rounded, sublime and seamless expression of syrah which ages like a rock. This is a wine that is always the most beautiful in our cellar.

"The exotic, highly perfumed, concentrated, massively structured, rich and complex single vineyard Clarendon Hills Astralis (“pertaining to the stars”) derives from 35 to 70 year old dry grown vines planted on a complex mixture of clay, ironstone and gravely soils. A laissez-faire wine making philosophy is central to style allowing the wine to speak of its origins. Fermentation takes place with natural yeasts in an open stainless steel tank. The wine is matured in 100% new French oak barriques for around 18 months before bottling without filtration. This is a contemporary Australian classic with strong regional definition and long term cellaring potential. In recent times it has transcended the cult wine scene bringing extra dimension to the Australian ultra-fine market."Andrew Caillard MW

Clos Henri Vineyard Bel Echo Pinot Noir 2012 750mL

We believe we have to make the most of the experience acquired by the Bourgeois family, thereby making a Pinot Noir that respects the French winemaking tradition. We also believe that we ought to make a wine that respects the Marlborough character. This wine shows great classical lines while enriched with the astonishing Marlborough fruit personality. This personality is sourced from our unique terroir and revealed through its fine aromatic intensity. With the vines getting older, the quality and finesse of the Bel Echo is continuously surprising us and hints at the true potential of our site.” Damien Yvon, Winemaker

This wine was fermented in large French oak vats and then 40% was aged in these large oak vats to maintain fruit integrity. The remaining 60% went to old French oak barrels. This fine balance between the fruit and the oak enables the tannins to soften while helping to develop a vibrant and charismatic Pinot Noir.
