Ata Rangi Craighall Chardonnay 2012 750mL

3816

Craighall is the premium Chardonnay from the prized blocks of Mendoza cloned vines, most of which are now 30 years old. A bright stone fruit and citrus blossom bouquet and sleek, with driven mineralityforming the key cohesive and finely crafted 2012 vintage.

The has elegance, balance, minerality, tension and drive. On the nose, ripe stone-fruit meets white-flower perfume, these primary characters leading effortlessly into more savoury, melded, brioche-like fermentation characters on the palate.

Branson Coach House Coach House Block Shiraz 2004 750mL

5

A multi dimensional bouquet of roasted meats, mineral, cola, tar and blackberry. Give this one time to open up, this monster is built for the long haul! The palate starts out thick and coating; immediately powerful and explosive, you are then thrown a huge chunk of fruit while the acid and tannin roll around trying to tame it. The wine shows great oak handling and remains succulent, complete and perfectly balanced.

Branson Coach House-Greenock Block-Shiraz-2002-750mL

6

Almost black in colour with purple flints - excellent depth. The bouquet is tight, demonstrating pine needles, dusty cherries, liquorice and beef blood. The palate is initially sweet, with a beautiful framework of purple fruits, earth and tar. Excellent acid balance with good fruit concentration building in the mid palate finishing with dry grainy tannins.

Unit Price(Single) From: $85.00

Brokenwood Indigo Vineyard Chardonnay 2014 750mL

5563

The Beechworth ‘terroir’ has a distinctive fruit character of pear/peach fruit.

The oak has minimal impact by using older French oak and mainly puncheons.

The warm year has meant less citrus lift but has bran meal notes from the wild ferment and extended lees contact.

The palate is quite rich with zesty acid line through to the finish.

Clarendon Hills-Astralis-Shiraz-2008-750mL

1561

This is Clarendon Hills’ flagship wine. It is a member of Clarendon Hills’ ‘Grand Cru’ classification. Every year, the Astralis vineyard produces the most beautiful wine in our cellar. Despite its non-differentiated treatment in the cellar, it always reveals the most rounded, sublime and seamless expression of syrah which ages like a rock. This is a wine that is always the most beautiful in our cellar.

"The exotic, highly perfumed, concentrated, massively structured, rich and complex single vineyard Clarendon Hills Astralis (“pertaining to the stars”) derives from 35 to 70 year old dry grown vines planted on a complex mixture of clay, ironstone and gravely soils. A laissez-faire wine making philosophy is central to style allowing the wine to speak of its origins. Fermentation takes place with natural yeasts in an open stainless steel tank. The wine is matured in 100% new French oak barriques for around 18 months before bottling without filtration. This is a contemporary Australian classic with strong regional definition and long term cellaring potential. In recent times it has transcended the cult wine scene bringing extra dimension to the Australian ultra-fine market."Andrew Caillard MW

d'Arenberg The Dead Arm Shiraz 2004 1.5L

111

Upon release, ‘The Dead Arm’ Shiraz has a vivid, young, dense, purple-red colour. Very intense aromas with a complex combination of fragrant spices and violets, dark cherry, blackberry and blueberry, are made more complex with great liquorice, pepper and integrated svelte of boot-polish like characters. The taste is rich, gutsy and virile, with attacking spice, dark liquorice, cherry, blackberry, plum and dried black olive. The level of fruit weight masks the framework of oak tannins; however, the mineral fruit grittiness is balanced with a very long fruit-fragrant, persistent spice will yield a wine of great ageing power.

With time the full spice, strawberry and liquorice and blackcurrants will develop with fresh pepper tails; at this stage, it is a mean monster with fragrant, gritty, fruit tannins that go on forever.

Eventually, the Grenache and Shiraz blossom as rich, sweet, violet-like scents, with spicy based aroma, before malty, sweet, dark chocolate flavours and crunchy, chewy textured black olive, spicy ginger and long fleshy textures. The Mourvedre adds dried herbs and iodine characters that are very persistent, matched with slightly chalky tannins.

The hallmark of vigorous, fine piquant tannin and acidity continue to reside with ‘The Ironstone Pressings’ after some considerable time, as have previous vintages since the late 1950’s.
