Released 2017. Made naturally with only a tiny amount of sulphite added at bottling. Unfined and unfiltered. This elegant and refined Pinot Noir rests on its bright natural acidity to enhance the red fruit and floral notes. Impresssive shape and length will ensure that with time it should only improve, developing more smokey, earthy and savoury characters typical of the Estate. After 2 years in barrel has been cellared for a further 1 year in bottle.
Intriguing bouquet of dark fruits and forest floor, brown spices, dried herbs, and hints of old rose. Dry, savoury, spicey; moderate to fine tannins, plenty of acidity, minerality and a tense structure just beginning to relax after some time in the cellar. You can almost taste the limestone. 2 years in old oak followed by 5 years in cellar. This wine is drinking superbly now. Unfined and unfiltered and bottled with very low sulphite levels.
The 2009 Fancrest Estate Pinot Noir was listed by Rebecca Gibb MW as one of her top NZ reds of 2014. 92/100
