Collector Wines-Marked Tree Red-Shiraz-2018-750mL

9785

The wine’s lively crimson colour is accompanied by a fragrant bouquet of dark cherry, blackberry, pepper and aniseed, with a savoury, textured mouthfeel. Although weighted for early
drinking, the 2018 Marked Tree Red has a sturdy spine and will age gracefully.

The grapes were hand-harvested at between 12.5 and 13.5 Baume. Fermentation with whole bunches and natural yeast took place in open fermenters which were worked by pigeage to extract flavour and tannin. Parcels went through a natural malolactic
fermentation and ageing in a mix of new and seasoned Allier and Troncais oak. Blending and bottling took place in February 2019.

Collector Wines-Reserve-Shiraz Viognier-2015-750mL

9787

The 2015 Reserve is beautifully ripe, and combines the intensity and vibrancy of the vintage with the spice, perfume and elegant structure that these vineyards consistently give. Showing plenty ofyouthful charm now, this wine will be at its best at between five to thirty years of age.

The grapes were hand-harvested at approx. 13 Baumé. Fermentation with aound 70% whole bunches took place in open fermenters which were worked by foot and rack/return. Individual parcels were matured in a mix of new and seasoned Allier and Tronçais oak. Blending and bottling took place in February 2016.

Made from mature shiraz vines grown on elevated granitic loam sites near Murrumbateman.

The growing season leading up to the 2015 harvest was generally temperate, with moderate rainfall assisting to create near-perfect conditions. Very modest yields in 2015 produced shiraz grapes with well-ripened tannin and pristine flavours.

d'Arenberg The Dead Arm Shiraz 2000 750mL

102

A perfume of grilled steak intermixed with blackberries, new saddle leather, earth, pepper, and melted licorice rises from this awesome red. With great power, richness, and no hard edges, it is still young and primary, but should hit its peak in 3-7 years, and last for two decades or more.

Unit Price(Single) From: $69.00

d'Arenberg The Dead Arm Shiraz 2001 1.5L

104

Upon release, ‘The Dead Arm’ Shiraz has a vivid, young, dense, purple-red colour. The taste is rich, gutsy and virile, with attacking spice, dark liquorice, cherry, blackberry, plum and dried black olive. d'Arenberg The Dead Arm Shiraz 2003 1.5L

109

The 2003 season was characterised by a very low winter rainfall which signalled the vine to minimize potential crop load. The ripening period was warm producing a crop load of small berries and very pure, ripe fruit characters.

Even with a smaller than normal crop load many batches showed wonderful fruit characters due to an excellent skin to pulp ratios and this is evident in the final wine. This year in particular selected parcels of fruit deemed worthy of the Dead Arm label were down 50% in volume.

Another example of young vines making profound wines.  Spending 26-28 months in old American oak barrels and small foudres (hogsheads), these wines are bottled unfiltered, and exhibits the intense extract, and style unique to Australia.  Made from ultra ripe fruit, they show purity of the Shiraz grape, rarely seen, without being monolithic or heavy.
