Almost black in colour with purple flints - excellent depth. The bouquet is tight, demonstrating pine needles, dusty cherries, liquorice and beef blood. The palate is initially sweet, with a beautiful framework of purple fruits, earth and tar. Excellent acid balance with good fruit concentration building in the mid palate finishing with dry grainy tannins.

Professional Reviews

92/100
Wine Spectator
Firm in texture, an immensely refined style that weaves some earthy, gamy notes through the dark, ripe berry and spice flavors, finishing long and beautifully focused. Needs time to settle into itself and shed some tannin, and then, wow.
WS, Harvey Steiman Issue: May 31 2004

92/100
The Wine Advocate
A classic, old style Australian Shiraz aged in American oak. Its deep plum/purple color is accompanied by damp earth, pepper, fig, and black currant characteristics. Chewy, intensely concentrated, and nearly over the top, it is not for those who seek elegant, light-bodied wines with restrained fruit flavors. This is a muscular, macho-styled red.
WA, Robert Parker Jr. Issue: #155
