Branson Coach House-Coach House Block-Shiraz-2004-750mL

A multi dimensional bouquet of roasted meats, mineral, cola, tar and blackberry. Give this one time to open up, this monster is built for the long haul! The palate starts out thick and coating; immediately powerful and explosive, you are then thrown a huge chunk of fruit while the acid and tannin roll around trying to tame it. The wine shows great oak handling and remains succulent, complete and perfectly balanced.

Brokenwood-Graveyard Vineyard-Shiraz-2013-750mL

Sound fruit and excellent ripeness. Typical mid density colour meaning this is an elegant supple Graveyard Shiraz.

The older, large format French oak integrates perfectly with sweetness and fine tannins. The fruit spectrum for Graveyard Shiraz is about red cherries and almost Pinot-like Campari notes. Medium bodied palate but with ripe tannins and a juicy acidity that will keep the wine in good stead for many years.

Brokenwood-Hunter Valley-Shiraz-2014-750mL

Lovely mid density colour, not light or black with purple hues. Dark cherry and now released as a young wine, some noticeble charry oak notes on the aroma.

Brokenwood had the luxury of being highly selective across all its barrels in 2014 and this wine has benefitted greatly from some declassified old vine Graveyard Shiraz in the blend.

Full flavoured and slight Hunter Valley iodine characters and lots of ripe blackberry fruit.

Sweet ripe tannins carry the flavour and bright acid finish. Again oak there but certainly fits the overall structure of the wine.

The 33rd vintage, this wine is an intense purple-black colour. The complex bouquet displays raspberry and dark cherry fruit, a savoury black olive note and an exotic graphite element. The weight is medium but the attack is immensely powerful and persistent. Wonderful juicy sweet-sour dark fruit is framed by fine ripe tannins. This is a wine to decant and enjoy now or keep for the long term. A breathtaking wine.

d'Arenberg-The Dead Arm-Shiraz-2000-750mL

A perfume of grilled steak intermixed with blackberries, new saddle leather, earth, pepper, and melted licorice rises from this awesome red. With great power, richness, and no hard edges, it is still young and primary, but should hit its peak in 3-7 years, and last for two decades or more.

d'Arenberg-The Dead Arm-Shiraz-2002-3.0L

The 2002 season was characterised by a cold, wet winter and spring, which produced lower yields with good, thick-skinned berries. The cool and dry summer ripened fruit gradually and a warm, dry autumn allowed the grapes to ripen fully, producing some of the best and most exotic characters seen for many years.

d'Arenberg-The Dead Arm-Shiraz-2003-750mL

The 2003 season was characterised by a very low winter rainfall which signalled the vine to minimize potential crop load. The ripening period was warm producing a crop load of small berries and very pure, ripe fruit characters. Even with a smaller than normal crop load many batches showed wonderful fruit characters due to an excellent skin to pulp ratios and this is evident in the final wine. This year in particular selected parcels of fruit deemed worthy of the Dead Arm label were down 50% in volume.

Fox Creek-Short Row-Shiraz-2001-1.5L

Vibrant rim with an intense dark plum core. The nose of this wine is powerful and aromatic. It has a suggestion of a rich intense wine with plenty of blackberry fruit. The oak shows as a sweet, lifted character and has an enticing effect in combination with the powerful fruit aroma. This wine is a typical McLaren Vale Shiraz. With a strong central core of black fruit, there is a sweetness that only comes from a region such as this. The fruit is well balanced by firm yet very soft tannins and the finish is dry and lengthy, with acidity to carry the wine through a few years in the bottle.

Giaconda-Warner-Shiraz-2001-1.5L

Deeply coloured magenta hues: roasted meats, black olives, vanilla bean, twists of black pepper and spice and cedary oak notes. The palate is rich, rolling and full: A mirror image of the bouquet. Fine powdery tannins work their way through the wine's mid palate carrying the sweet, black, spicy fruit. The finish is dry, the tannins doing their best work at the end of the wine as a counter - balance to the rich fruit. A glorious wine, packed with flavour, and built around a structure that allows the wine to dance on the palate, rather than trudge along stomping its feet. Deft and savoury.

Groom-Estate-Shiraz-2003-750mL

It is big, black and an intensely colored wine. The nose shows very generous black fruit characteristics of cherries, plums and cassis. A touch of anise and spice emerge, identifying shiraz as the true personality. The up front color and aroma intensity deceive one to think of big aggressive tannins and an unruly end, but you will be surprised to find the palate rich, round and voluptuous with a soft lingering finish.
