Two Hands

Two hands Two hands glass

The 'two hands' are Richard Mintz and Michael Twelftree who formed the company in 1999 with the clear objective of making the best possible shiraz based wines from prized shiraz producing regions within Australia.

In 2000 they started with just 17 tonnes of fruit from the McLaren Vale and Padthaway wine regions. From the beginning the wines were very well received at home and abroad with a healthy stream of reviews, culminating in 2004 with Robert M. Parker pronouncing Two Hands as "the finest negociant operation south of the equator".

The heart of the operation is based in the Barossa Valley; the cellar door and winery are located in the sub district of Marananga. Since the winery opened, Two Hands success has gone from strength to strength with numerous accolades defining the culture of the organisation. Two Hands continues to extend its distribution around the world, branching out from the Australian domestic and United States of America markets to now include the export markets of the United Kingdom, Asia, Canada, New Zealand and the European Union.

Dense purple red almost black.  A powerful nose of ripe plums and succulent blackberries laced with a hint of cedar spice. Wow!  Bella's as always shows amazing depth and power whilst maintaining an elegant fruit purity.  Matured in all French oak, the majority being seasoned barrels, allowing the fruit to do the talking with only the merest hint of cedar oak to support the ripe plum and mulberry flavours.  Finely woven tannins produce a long linear wine forming a race track like structure along the palate.  Great length and persistency of flavour.

Two Hands Deer in Headlights Shiraz 2003 1.5L

2003 vintage:

Winter started with heavy rains, which tapered off resulting in below average rainfalls and a successful budburst in early spring. Flowering and set occurred in November, promoting uniform berry development and bunch numbers were on average for the season. Veraison for Shiraz and Cabernet started in late January with the older vines producing lighter crops. The height of summer saw 65mm of rainfall in the last week of February requiring swift viticultural practices to prevent the onset of disease and fungus. Our 2003 Barossa Shiraz displayed great colour and depth of flavour. Yields overall were below the long-term average but the grapes were of good quality and the resultant wines display terrific potential.

Wine description:

Bright purple plum colour. Glossy red fruits and spiced plum cake on the nose with a hint of vanilla spice. The palate shows swathes of rich generous fruit, ripe blackberry intermingled with soft cedary spice. A fine coating of gentle tannins washes over the palate with a long and persistent finish to end.

A blend of our finest Shiraz barrels from across the Barossa Valley region. This is a sumptuous wine, defined by its aromatic complexity and finesse. Predominately grown in the Red/Brown earth of the Barossa’s western ranges, the soil profile creates masculine tannins and richness through the palate. Lower yield limiting soils provide a large fruit concentration. This label’s colour reflects the red soils of the Barossa’s western ranges where all the best Two Hands vineyards are located.

Two Hands-Brave Faces-Shiraz Grenache-2019-750mL

9635

A luscious red revealing abundant amount of cherries, raspberries, and currants intermixed with notions of liquorice and spice. There are undertones of chocolate, baking spices, soft tannins throughout and a dry finish, It is about seductive as a Syrah/Grenache/Mataro blend can be. Since only 20% new oak was used, the fruit is its dominant characteristic.

Sourced from one of the highest vineyards on top of Menglers Hill, this quintessential Eden Valley Shiraz has a soft bouquet of red fruits and fresh cut flowers with a moderately powerful fruit profile that finishes with an amazing minerality. Acidity is the true key to this wine. The elevation provides acidity retention and slight relief from weather extremes.

Skeletal gravelly soils provide a fine boned mouth feel. Wildlife and gumtrees surround this vineyard, a natural inspiration for the colour of this label.

Two Hands-Harriet's Garden-Shiraz-2017-750mL

9805

From the coolest part of the state as the weather rolls in off the Southern Ocean. The latest block to be brought to the winery, this is an elegant wine with a unique aromatic profile and tannin structure. A recent grape source from a vineyard next to Hope Forest, this is a site we harvest late, allowing slow development of ripeness and tannin. The moderating effect of the southern ocean in conjunction with the site’s elevation provides finer red fruit characteristics. The wine is named after Michael’s daughter, Harriet whose favourite colour is pink.

Brilliant, smart black with red flints in colour. A bouquet of caramel, mocha, fresh coffee beans, liquorice and a ripe mint, backed by intense dry prunes and a lifted spice. The palate is thick, concentrated and viscouse. The fruit weight is very powerful and the juicy texture coats your mouth, leaving you with an extremely long finish that is balanced and well rounded. This is a very exciting wine.
